历史人文纪录片《最后的马帮》讲述一条鲜为人知的驿道，联结着一个被大山阻隔的民族，伴随着社会变革中的阵痛，中国最后的一支国家马帮，在高黎贡山演出了最后的一幕悲壮故事……
滇西北的高山峡谷，静静地流淌着一条发源于西藏，流经中国、缅甸和印度，被称为独龙江的大河，这个大河流域有一狭长而极为偏僻、封闭的区域。每年的十二月到第二年的六月，长达半年的大雪封山，隔绝了这里除了通讯联络外与外界的一切往来。这就是被称为“死亡河谷”的独龙江峡谷。在这个“死亡河谷”里，居住着四千多在本世纪五十年代末期仍处在原始社会末期“父系家族公社”阶段的独龙族。千百年来他们能够生存下来并得以发展本身就是一个奇迹，因为他们自有一套与自然环境息息相关，并从其中获取物质、文化生活所必需的生产及生存方式。五十年代后期开始，国家为了保障他们的基本生活，投入大量的人力物力，靠最多时有五百多匹骡马，“性质”为国营的“国家马帮”，每年运送600吨左右的粮食和其它生产、生活物资进入独龙江流域，以救济独龙族兄弟。
