《茶马古道-另一条丝绸之路》是由NHK和KBS电视台联合摄制的关于世界上最古老的商路的系列高清纪录片，茶马古道比丝绸之路要早200年。
自古以来中国的云南省以马帮运输茶、盐、粮食的古道已有近千年的历史。马帮就像今日的汽车，在山路中将背上的货物运往各地。“茶马古道”也因此而得名。茶马古道穿越中国西南地区的四川和云南省一直到西藏地区，尼泊尔和印度。古道不仅是最重要的商贸通道，也是中国内陆和西藏地区语言、人口、宗教和文化交流的重要通道。
茶马古道是一个非常特殊的地域称谓，是一条世界上自然风光最壮观，文化最为神秘的旅游绝品线路，它蕴藏着开发不尽的文化遗产。滇藏茶马古道大约形成于公元六世纪后期，它南起云南茶叶主产区思茅、普洱，中间经过今天的大理白族自治州和丽江地区、香格里拉进入西藏，直达拉萨。有的还从西藏转口印度、尼泊尔，是古代中国与南亚地区一条重要的贸易通道。普洱是茶马古道上独具优势的货物产地和中转集散地，具有着悠久的茶马古道地图历史。
本纪录片的拍摄重点将位于云南、四川、西藏境内的横断山脉。它将青藏高原与云贵高原连接在一起，平均海拔为二千五百米以上。这里形成的独特自然气候，森林、水资源极大丰富，由亚洲的动、植物博物馆之称。在这片土地上，藏族、怒族、独龙族、纳西族、傈僳族已居住了上百年近千年。怒江、澜沧江、金沙江从峡谷中流过，源头是青藏高原的喜马拉雅山。这个神奇的地区被人称之为“香格里拉”。摄制组将在茶马古道在这个神奇的地方穿行，为观众带来这块神奇的土地内的生活、贸易和文化的联系与发展。
千百年来，马帮在这条古道上活动，茶叶从一个商人转到另一个商人手中，一站转一站，送到世界的另一边。茶马古道不仅是一条路，更是一个历史文化的载体，在中国大西南的险山恶水和原野丛林之间绵延。悠远的马铃声，串起了众多民族和不同文化的交融。
茶马古道上的精神生活也尤其令人向往，当地藏族人笃信佛教，在茶马古道的路途中，藏族人一路上行五体投地大礼，无数次的扑到在地上，朝着心灵中的胜境拉萨前进。本集摄制组与前往拉萨朝圣的藏族人同行，探索佛教文化与贸易的历史与演变。
